Introduction

Words are divided into different kinds or classes, called Parts of Speech, according to their use; that is, according to the work they do in a sentence. There are eight main parts of speech in the English language.

1. Noun

Relative Pronouns

3. Verb

A Verb is a word used to express an action or state.

6. Preposition

A Preposition is a word used with a Noun or a Pronoun to show how the person or thing denoted by the Noun or Pronoun stands in relation to something else.

Common Prepositions:

Place:

in, on, at, under, over, above, below, between, among

Time:

before, after, during, since, until, for

Direction:

to, from, into, onto, towards, away from

Other:

of, with, by, for, about, against

7. Conjunction

A Conjunction is a word used to join words or sentences.

Types of Conjunctions:

Coordinating Conjunctions

Examples: because, although, if, when, while, since

Correlative Conjunctions

8. Interjection
